Pre-concert talk at 6.30pm: Composer Emily Howard in conversation with Tim Williams.

Nobuyuki Tsujii was with the BBC Philharmonic in Japan in 2011 when the devastating earthquake struck, and Manchester audiences have forged a very special bond with this delightfully charismatic young pianist. Tonight he plays Grieg’s ever-popular piano concerto before Juanjo Mena and the orchestra summon the mists and myths of Mendelssohn’s atmospheric ‘Scottish’ symphony. And we take another spin down the Mancunian Way with a brand new work by Emily Howard, the RNCM graduate whose music is starting to cause a stir far beyond the North West.

Post Concert Event in the Auditorium: Free to all ticket holders
The RNCM Wind Ensemble performs a programme of Mancunian music, including Adam Gorb’s Bridgewater Breeze and Arthur Butterworth’s aptly named Mancunian Way. The concert is conducted by Mark Heron and Ektoras Tartanis.
