Journey Through Music with Tim O’Brien pre-concert workshop information.

Everyone has their favourite bit of Holst’s The Planets, whether it’s the angry rhythms of Mars, the rapturous calm of Venus, or the sheer majesty of Jupiter. But Holst’s masterpiece is a lot more than just great tunes – it’s a voyage to the outer limits of the soul itself.

Tonight John Storgårds travels through the solar system and follows two northern masters on their own fantastic journeys. John McCabe wrote his Outback-inspired Fire at Durilgai especially for the BBC Philharmonic and Sir Edward Downes. Sir Harrison Birtwistle was born in Accrington and we celebrate his 80th birthday with a performance of his Endless Parade with the world’s greatest Trumpet player, Håkan Hardenberger.
