To draw the RNCM’s French Connections year to a close, Yan Pascal Tortelier returns to Manchester to conduct the RNCM Symphony Orchestra in his personally chosen collection of orchestral music from Ravel’s ballet Daphnis et Chloé. The Daily Telegraph called Tortelier’s Daphnis ‘a thrilling account’ in his closing concert as Principal Conductor of the BBC Philharmonic. 15 years on, Tortelier brings his experience of conducting the work all over the world to the next generation of musicians, many of whom will be playing in their final concert performance as an RNCM student. Daphnis et Chloé is one of those universally loved master works – packed with passion, exuberance and sensuality. No wonder Stravinsky described it as 'one of the most beautiful products in all of French music’.
